Low Hanging Fruit

In the year 1980, 15 year old Erica is just coming to terms with her parents' divorce and the resulting hardship. When she learns that her mother plans to relocate the family to the beautiful but remote town of Leavenworth, Washington, her world comes to a crashing halt. As Erica, her younger sister and their mother settle in this Eastern Washington town, Erica finds herself challenged to test her boundaries, loyalties and, ultimately, redefine her sense of self. As her life unfolds, Erica slowly discovers the extent to which she will go to further her own needs and recognizes, perhaps too late, her own complicity in the disasters that take place around her.

Filled with feelings of insecurity and teen angst, Low Hanging Fruit is an intimate coming-of-age story where strength develops in the face of life changing events.

Susan Johnson's Low Hanging Fruit is an inspiring coming-of-age story about a young woman teetering between the naivete of childhood and the beckoning maturity of womanhood, while she and her family struggle through poverty ain rural Washington. Susan displays an adept story-tellling talent, drawing the reader into the hopes, dreams, pain and triumph of her protagonist, fifteen year old Erica Tambo, who learns many of life's lessons at the school of hard knocks in the Bavarian-styled village of Leavenworth, Washington.
